Looking to add some fun easy decor to your home? This DIY easy shadow box is an easy and fun craft project that allows you to showcase whatever your heart desires. In this blog post, I’ll walk you through how to make a beautiful and personalized shadow box using basic craft supplies and an SVG from my store.
In this post, I am using a travel theme, but these can really be anything like holidays, family, quotes, and other themes.
To get started, you will need for your easy shadow box:
Materials:
- A shadow box frame in your preferred size, a shallow box is good. (I used ones from Michael’s)
- A piece of scrapbook paper that fits your theme, in this case, travel.
- Adhesive Vinyl in your preferred color, I typically use white
- An SVG that fits your theme.
Tools:
- Cutting machine like a Cricut or Silhouette
- Transfer tape (I use painter’s tape)
- Weeding Tool
- Scissors
- Pen or Pencil
- Glue or adhesive
- Butter knife or Putty knife

Instructions for Making a Super Easy Shadow Box
Step 1 Prepare the Frame:
Remove the back of the frame using a putty knife or butter knife (save those fingers!). Place the back of the frame on your paper and trace, cut with scissors. If you are making a 12×12 then the paper might be the right size, woohoo!
Step 2:
Using glue or double stick tape attach the paper to the backing of the frame.
Step 3 Cut the Design:
On your Cricut software, load your design and resize to fit. I usually like a 2-inch space from the edge. Then cut as you usually would.
Step 4 Prepare for Transfer:
Weed and get the design transferred to your preferred transfer tape.
Step 5 Transfer Design:
Remove glass from frame and clean well with glass cleaner or alcohol. Center design and place on glass.
If you need help centering a + with dry erase marker on the other side of the glass, then loose fold your design and crease just the edges of the tape. Line creases up with the + on the glass.
Step 6- Assembly:
Reassemble the frame and you are all set!
This project is so stinking easy but the result is so pretty! It makes a great gift and is perfect for a newbie too!
